GREAT WAYNEDALE FOOTBALL SEASON AHEAD

Bishop Luers Knights are back - looking good for another state championship.BISHOP LUERS

One year ago a young Bishop Luers Football team had questions at nearly every starting position. As the season unfolded, the Knights had their ups and downs, finishing 4 – 5 in the conference. However, the Knights remained confident and fought their way to an amazing eighth state title.

With nearly everyone returning to the Knights

2010 squad, a “smoother” ride is expected. One of the main goals of the team this year is not only to compete

for another state championship, but to have a better showing in conference.

“This year we want to compete for the SAC championship. We have experience and even know we won the state title last year, we didn’t do well in conference,” Luers head coach Matt Lindsay stated.

One of Lindsay’s concerns was over confidence.

“We have to guard against over confidence by taking every team seriously every time we take the field.”

Nonetheless the talent and experience returning puts the Knights in prime  position to succeed in conference and capture another state championship.

Bishop Luers’ season started August 20 and they capped an incredible night by beating Snider 34-13.

WAYNE GENERALS

The Generals are coming off a fine 7-5 year where they made it to the sectional title game and were runner-ups. They are returning a lot of experience and talent.

The sky is truly the limit for the Generals 2010 campaign.

What possibly could be wrong?

Well, the team was missing a head coach through almost the entire summer, including when most teams were gearing up for the season.

At the end of July, former Elmhurst coach Kyle Beauchamp stepped in. He didn’t have a chance to be with the team until late July, which was less than a month from the team’s first game.

Coach Beauchamp stated “Coming in late was a challenge but that transition was made a lot easier by the fact that we have a good group of senior leaders. Early on it’s been about building relationships and conveying our expectations to the kids.”

This late start for Kyle Beauchamp and his staff has not depleted expectations.

“This team takes it one week at a time but the expectations are very high. We demand as much in preparation as we do in games.”

With the talent and experience returning to the Generals squad and a motivated staff, the Wayne Generals football team is in a great position to have a successful year in  conference and in the state playoffs.

The season started August 20 and the Generals had themselves a fantastic night by beating Harding 31-12.
