TOASTMATERS BEGINS NEW YEAR
Friday, January 27 2012

Whew! Baer Field Toastmasters has had a busy fall and early winter! November 15, 2011, we installed our new Toastmaster's logo flag. After having the same logo for seventy years, they have updated it to reflect our international outreach. Our Division Governor, Robert Norris, was on hand to help us dedicate our new flag. Berniece Wilkins gave a talk on the history of the Toastmaster logo. Mr. Norris spoke on the effect Toastmasters has had over the years through some leading figures, such as Nancy Brinker, founder of Susan B. Komen Race for the Cure, who have participated in it.

Then on December 20, we celebrated the Christmas season with a dinner provided by member, Rhonda Maller. She also moderated our Table Topic's contest. (That is where each contestant is given 2 minutes to answer a question posed by the moderator.) Matthew Ford won and Linda Demorest came in second. They now go on to participate against other area winners on February 18, 2012, at the Allen County Public Library. Following the contest, we had our gift exchange and a time of fellowship. We were happy to welcome some guests for the evening and a good time was had by all.

Now as we enter the New Year, we are looking forward to further growth in ourselves and our club. Through our speaking, we grow our communication skills; and through participating as officers, we develop our leadership abilities.

Sometimes, leadership is not a goal. That is okay. In our first meeting of the new year we discussed the purpose of goals. They help us develop discipline and give us something to look forward to. Each member has his/her own goals and desires for him or herself. Through Toastmasters, we are able to reach those goals-with the help of our fellow members. That is exciting to see!

With that in mind, we wish everyone a Great New Year and success in meeting your goals for this year!
