APPRECIATING THE WAYNEDALE NEIGHBORHOODIt was Customer Appreciation Day on Friday, August 19, 2011 at Waynedale's Marathon Station, 3411 Lower Huntington Road. According to the store manager this was the busiest day in his 13 years of working in convenience stores. The special day for customers included $1.50 slices of pizza and $.69 fountain drinks all day. FLYING SQUIRRELS ARE BACK IN WAYNEDALE

A few flying squirrels paid a visit to the Walker home in the winter a few years ago, but they have not seen them since. In mid-August, right after Karen's husband had filled the bird feeders, Karen spotted this little fellow at 9:30 p.m. enjoying sunflower seeds in the feeder attached to the tree in front of their home.
Flying squirrels are nocturnal. It is rare to see them much less get a photo of them. Thank you Karen!

PRESENTATION TO ST. JOE HOSPITAL BURN UNIT

On Tuesday, August 9, 2011, the Fraternal Order of Eagles #248 presented a check for $600 to the St. Joe Hospital Burn Unit.

(L-R) Terry Middleton, Michelle Fogel, Brad Root, Geoff Grosh, Chris Donnelly, Thom McFaul, Gary Clinton and WC Storry.

The money raised will be used by St. Joe Hospital for various programs to help children who have sustained burns.

CELEBRATING THE LIFE OF ALINA Hundreds of students, friends and family said their final farewell to 23-year-old Alina BigJohny, this past week. She was one of six people killed in the stage collapse during the Sugarland country duo concert on August 13, at the Indiana State Fair. The Sugarland group was to take stage at any moment when a strong gust of wind, ahead of a severe thunderstorm, blew down the stage as thousands gathered for the show. COME ENJOY PICNIC-IN-THE-PARKOur Waynedale Community is gearing up for its 9th annual Picnic-in-the-Park. This will take place at the Waynedale Park which is located at Elzey and Koon Street, south off Lower Huntington Road. The Waynedale Picnic will be held on Saturday, August 27, starting at 10 am to 3 pm with children's games ending at 2 pm.
