MY MOTHER WAS WRONG ABOUT SPINACH

One of the great joys of getting older, and there is at least one joy involved in this grueling process, is discovering that you were right all the time. I try not to boast here because, well, that's just the kind of person I am. And, I'm not going... Read more...

REDEFINING AN ACT OF GOD
Written by Ronnie McBrayer
Friday, July 15 2011
It happens every time a major natural disaster strikes, and it doesn't matter if it is in Japan, Alabama, Haiti or New Orleans. Pontificating preachers, televangelists, and their minions begin pointing fingers, blaming the victims, and speaking of God's raging vengeance. Even insurance companies get in on the fault-finding, referring to otherwise inexplicable disasters as "acts of God." Acts of God? What about the crashing of tectonic plates, the inherent danger of living on a hurricane-prone c ... Read more...

As I mentioned in my review of Bad Teacher, there's no shortage of inspiring movies about education. Usually, these movies center upon a teacher who, through hard work and dedication, makes a lasting difference in the lives of students and brings tears to the moviegoer's eyes. Larry Crowne, on the other hand, is more about student than teacher. Unfortunately, when this film tries to inspire it undercuts the charm of its story and characters. Larry Crowne stars Tom Hanks as the title character, ... Read more...

In the midst of summer vacation, Bad Teacher promised to deliver some belly laughs for teachers on vacation. Instead, all the good parts were given away in the trailer and what remained was an unfunny comedy seriously detached from the classroom. Bad Teacher stars Cameron Diaz as Elizabeth Halsey, a gold-digger who finds herself forced to keep working as a middle school English teacher after her fiancé realizes she's marrying him for money and calls the wedding off. Determined to find another r ... Read more...

GO! TOASTMASTERS! GO!
Friday, July 01 2011
That is how I feel as we end another year with the election of new officers to take over July 1. As president, it has been a fulfilling time and an exciting time as we see our members growing in their speaking and leadership abilities. Memorial Day weekend saw our first car wash to help earn money to purchase kits to assist our members in their speaking and leadership growth. There are certain projects that are needed to move up in leadership in Toastmasters, as well as, in the speaking area. W ... Read more...
