AT THE MOVIES WITH KASEY BUTCHER: "THE AVENGERS"
Friday, May 18 2012
I'll admit that the only comic books I've ever read are a couple of Care Bears issues from the early 1990s. I know that there are a lot of passionate comic book fans out there, but also there's a lot of us who just go to the movies without the... Read more...

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

Editor, A couple of weeks ago I indicated to someone that if I could, I'd enlist today and help my country track down those responsible for killing thousands of innocent people in New York City and Washington, D.C. But I'm over 50 now and the Armed Forces say I'm too old to track down terrorists. You can't be older than 35 to join the Army. They've got the whole thing backwards. Instead of sending 18-year-olds off to the fight, they ought to take us old guys. In fact, you shouldn't even be ... Read more...

HOMETOWN VIEWSOooooooohhh I just have to tell you where we went to dine recently. Our daughter and her family was in town along with all our other children and their families for our big once-a-year Thanksgiving dinner. Since Elizabeth and I haven't seen each other in over a year and since neither one of us likes to cook very much, we decided to let the husbands and children take us out for breakfast without the rest of the family. We needed our special time together. As it turned out we could have had mo ... Read more...

THAT'S THE WAY I SAW ITA CHRISTMAS DAY THAT SHOULD NEVER BE FORGOTTEN   If you check history books that list events by dates; you will notice that not much happens during the month of December. I guess most people are getting ready for the holidays and not much happens on Christmas day. One event on Christmas Day December 1776 should never be forgotten by Americans. On that day General George Washington lead 2400 men across the ice-clogged Delaware River with a surprise attack on a Hessian Garrison at Trenton, New ... Read more...

Thanks for the Other Day   Greetings from Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church. I'm Don Kleinschmidt, the interim Senior Pastor, and I am happy to be allowed to share this space with you. My wife and I served as missionaries to Japan. We lived there ten years, where, of course, we had to relate to the Japanese in their language. The first time it happened (or that I was able to understand) I was puzzled to hear a person I had met only once say, "Thanks so much for the other day." I didn't even remembe ... Read more...

HOMETOWN VIEWSOooooooohhh I just have to tell you something, I've had the grandest time this month and last. I've gotten to see all my grandchildren but one new one that hasn't been born very long and it is out of state and a long ways off. We all got together and had turkey and ham for an early Thanksgiving and one night we all went out to eat together. I'm in so much of a much better mood than I have been in a long time. Wayne has discovered Viagra. I do wish he would get some sleep and take better ca ... Read more...
