3-PEAT: JENKINS COLLECTS 3RD MCC PLAYER OF THE WEEKMake it three in five weeks and back-to-back. University of Saint Francis forward Bessie Jenkins has been named Mid-Central College Conference Player of the Week for the second consecutive week and third time in five weeks after her efforts last week for the Lady Cougars in a 3-0 finish to the USF regular season.

Jenkins (Fort Wayne, IN / Wayne H.S.) averaged 22.7 points, matched her career best with 33 points against 17th-ranked Huntington University and shot .531 in two conference games. She scored 20 points in the second half of USF’s comeback win over the Foresters. She finished the week scoring 26 points, 18 in the second half, at No. 24 Bethel and grabbed 11 rebounds for her third double-double of the season.

Jenkins finished as the No. 2 scorer in MCC play at 17.4 points per game, No. 3 in 3-point field goal percentage (.414) and No. 7 in free-throw percentage (.807).

In overall MCC stats, Jenkins finished as the No. 5 scorer at 14.9 ppg, No. 4 in points scored with 447, just one point behind No. 3. She averaged 28.8 ppg in USF’s final four conference games of the season scoring 33 twice against NAIA Top 25 teams Indiana Wesleyan and Huntington. She has shot 56 percent from the field in USF’s last nine conference games. She has scored 20 or more points in four straight conference games.

Jenkins earned her first MCC Player-of-the-Week award for the week of January 18-23 earlier this season and her second for the week of February 8-13.

“Bessie has played despite some physical adversity and has really earned everything she has gotten,” USF coach Gary Andrews said. “She’s one of just two seniors and she has been an inspiration to the whole team with her play in games and work ethic off the court.”

Lady Cougars advanced to MCC Semifinals to play #3 seed Huntington at #2 seed USF on Friday, February 26.
