The Village at Anthony Boulevard, Lutheran Life Villages’ continuing-care retirement community on the south side of Fort Wayne, will host Active Aging Week, Sunday through Saturday, September 23-29. This event is open to the public.
Active Aging Week is promoted by the International Council on Active Aging (ICAA), an organization dedicated to changing perceptions about aging and to improving quality of life among older adults. Active Aging Week events are hosted locally by retirement communities and other organizations serving older adults. This year’s theme is “Many journeys, many destinations.”
“Active Aging Week is an opportunity to begin fall on a positive note,” says Lutheran Life Villages Wellness Director Andrea Sliger. “This weeklong event celebrates healthy aging and spreads the message that people can engage in life fully at any age.”
Highlights of Active Aging Week at Lutheran Life Villages will include a performance by Guitar Guy at 1 p.m. on Monday, September 24; a free Zumba Gold class at 2:15 p.m. on Tuesday, September 25; free chair massages on Wednesday, September 26; square dancing at 7 p.m. on Thursday, September 27; and a chance to cheer on the nine remarkable Lutheran Life Villages residents participating in the final leg of the Fort4Fitness Senior Marathon at Parkview Field on Friday, September 28, at 6:30 p.m.
Founded in 1931, Lutheran Life Villages is a premier provider of independent-living, assisted-living, and nursing-care communities for older adults on its campuses in Fort Wayne and Kendallville. In addition, Lutheran Life Villages Home Care provides non-medical personal assistance to older adults wherever they reside in northeast Indiana. The organization also participates in intergenerational programming at Children’s Village, the early-learning center on the Fort Wayne campus.
