WAYNEDALE FOUNTAIN ON LIST FOR IMPROVEMENT – Message From The Mayor

In August of 1951 the Women’s Christian Temperance Union held their regular monthly meeting at the home of Mrs. Myrtle Mason on Ideal Avenue. They voted to sponsor a water fountain in the Waynedale Memorial Park. The Women’s Christian Temperance Union installed the fountain in honor of Frances Williard, their great national Temperance leader.

I recently joined Parks & Recreation Director Al Moll to provide an update on the 2016 capital improvement projects in our parks and facilities operated by the Parks & Recreation Department.

Over 60 projects were started and completed in 2016 and more than 30 projects are still in progress. In total, the City of Fort Wayne invested close to $3 million in Parks & Recreation Department improvements in 2016.

Some highlights of the completed 2016 projects:
Packard Park
Ball Diamond and Sidewalk
Foster Park Volleyball Crt.
Indian Village Park
Sidewalk Improvement
Waynedale Park
Drinking Fountain

We’ll continue to invest in the Parks & Recreation Department with $5 million in projects slated for 2017.

Fort Wayne is a recognized leader in providing quality of life amenities because of our commitment to investing in parks. I continue to be encouraged by the positive momentum and excitement we’re experiencing in our City. We’re fortunate to be in a community that values and appreciates the importance of maintaining our parks. Collectively, we’re making a meaningful and lasting impact.
