Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic School participated in Catholic School Week January 29-February 5 2017.
The overall theme this year was “Catholic Schools: Communities of Faith, Knowledge, and Service”.
On Monday, “Celebrating Our Service” was shown by collecting canned goods, which were given to St. Mary’s Soup Kitchen and Miss Virginia’s Mission. HOUSE groups consisting of 6-8th graders worked in teams to create and decorate boxes used to collect donations. HOUSE groups then partnered with younger grades. To make it fun, each team then competed against one another to see who could bring in the most donations. This friendly competition, affectingly named Cans for Christ, with the winning HOUSE group earning 100 House points.
“Celebrating Our Faith” was promoted on Tuesday with an All-School Mass during the day, and opening the school after hours for a kindergarten reception for new, interested families. This day also consisted of “Celebrating our Knowledge” with Dr. Stark from the University of Notre Dame’s visit to the middle school with a traveling DNA exhibit for science class. Younger grades were entertained with an interactive visit from members of Fort Wayne Philharmonic.
This portion of the theme continued on Wednesday with 8th graders hosting Math Night for Preschool-4th graders. Various classrooms housed a handful of 8th graders each with their own math activity. Younger students enjoyed games such as estimating how many bubbles they could blow in 1 minute, and then testing to see if correct. After visiting each participating classroom, a hotdog, salad and dessert were provided for dinner.
“Celebrating Our Students” closed out this busy but amazing Catholic Schools Week. Teachers wrote notes to their students, highlighting individual achievements and qualities. At the end of the day, students and staff participated in a Sock Hop followed by a movie or activity with their Spirit Pals. Student Council hosted the week’s final activity by hosting an after school celebration at Roller Dome North.
